“Our intention with this mix is to use music as a medium to inspire, inform, and impact,” says McFlyy. “Sharing stories is what women love to do. This is our way of using our voice and our collaborator’s voices to remind us of who we are, how valuable we are, and why we should celebrate ourselves.”-Milk.xyz // Read more here.
HERS.
In late 2015 I teamed up with two of my besties and deejay loves Jasmine Solano and Martina McFlyy to throw a party called SAUCE. Recently we were inspired to leave a more permanent imprint and use our voices make an impact in the realm of intersectional feminism. And so, HERS. was born. More than a "girl power mixtape," we wanted to create a soundscape that represents all aspects of feminine perspective and energy. Thanks to our collaborators Abrima Erwiah and Rosario Dawson (Studio 189), Aja Monet, Melanie Fiona, Diana Gordon and Mia Moretti, we were able to weave the songs together with their beautiful quotes and others from notable women with songs we felt resonated with our collective vibration.

Voice Your Vote
When I was asked to participate in BET's Voice Your Vote campaign, I knew immediately it was something I'd be proud to be a part of. I don't consider myself a hyper-political person, but I do believe in being aware of important issues and the people who are chosen to represent our communities and lead our country. I believe in the responsibility we all have to exercise our rights and make our vote count and our voice heard.
The stakes of this election are higher than ever and as the current socio-political landscape, recent history and escalating events of today continuously show us, silence is no longer an option. If you aren't already, register to vote now at BET Vote 2016
wisdom: a portrait series anthony demby →
A beautifully articulated piece for The Manifesto from my friend and incredible human Anthony Demby. Read it in it's entirety here.
“I am not asking for a message in every song but I miss the vulnerability of storytelling. Take me somewhere, make me feel something, and make it resonate.”
#bodyrollparty
The June edition of my fave monthly was something special. The babes behind the body rolling - Melissa and Annie (2AB) and Cayla (The Red Lip Club) always bring out good peeps who are down for the cause, and this time the celebration vibes were extra poppin as we hosted Ashley Outrageous' birthday party. The pics of all these smiling, dancing faces really do bring me so much JOY. More at bodyrollparty.com

the world's champ
“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
heineken house rivalry week
The good folks at Heineken hosted a very cool few days of music, soccer and fun with friends in Los Angeles for MLS Rivalry Week. Starting to feel a lot like summer!

First time for everything! This was a trip. Definitely a marker in time for me, and so much fun.
sauce | spring fling
Our holiday party at Soho House NYC was so much fun, we decided to ring in spring with another gathering of our favorite party people. Real flavor, no artificial ingredients. Good source of vibes.
AO! Girls Night Out
Love love love that one of my favorite gals Ashley Outrageous came up with the idea to throw the ultimate girls night - an all boss babe overnight party to celebrate Women's History Month. Nine ladies convened at The Patch, a fressshhh brownstone in Brooklyn designed to host creatives and their endeavors, sponsored by Sour Patch Kids. First up was pretty things with MakeUp ForEver and Martine Ali. DefJam artist and my fellow Torontonian Jahkoy stopped by to give us an exclusive listen to some of his new music, after which we hopped in our Lyfts to the sold-out Webster Hall, where he opened for the talented sweetheart Tinashe. After the show, it's the afterparty...which for us meant back to The Patch for all the full on slumber party action. Yep, it was onesies (thanks Onepiece!) facials, girl talk, twerk practice and of course, a pillow fight.
But it was the collective energy of the ladies; all amazing, all following their dreams, leading with passion and giving the best of themselves that made the night really special. I know we'll continue to support and inspire each other, and that's something definitely worth celebrating.

Discwoman
It's International Women's Day! Yay us!! In honor of all the women who do what they love and empower each other to dream big and reach beyond the status quo, check out Discwoman, a great documentary short about an NYC based all-woman DJ collective promoting gender diversity in the global electronic music scene.
“We are often embraced by crowds because it’s still refreshing to have a woman deejaying and headlining an event. There are more and more women rising up in the industry and that is awesome. I hope that all the kick-ass women out there get the respect, recognition, and success they deserve.”
mavis!
I was very excited to have been asked to curate the music for the NYC premiere screening of Mavis!, the documentary film by Jessica Edwards on the life of music legend and civil rights icon Mavis Staples. The process of putting the playlist together was a history and music lesson for me, as well as an opportunity to spend time with some incredible music that I rarely get to utilize in my deejay sets. You can see Mavis! now on HBO and download the 2 hour soul, blues & gospel playlist here.
