I was very excited to have been asked to curate the music for the NYC premiere screening of Mavis!, the documentary film by Jessica Edwards on the life of music legend and civil rights icon Mavis Staples. The process of putting the playlist together was a history and music lesson for me, as well as an opportunity to spend time with some incredible music that I rarely get to utilize in my deejay sets. My friends at Jordan Brand hosted a special boxing and training session at Terminal 23 to celebrate CREED, a movie I am super amped to see, as a longtime ROCKY franchise fan. The Jordan trainers definitely put us through our paces, and the other Jordan - Micheal B. - stopped by to offer pointers, moral support and a smile. CREED hits theaters Thanksgiving Day.

Collaborating with friends is one of my most favorite parts of what I do . This time, it was curating tunes for the stream of artists, athletes and industry folk being photographed by my dear friend, the incomparable Jonathan Mannion over two days at a DTLA studio turned Beats chill spot.
As if my front row seat to watching a master at work wasn't enough of a treat, the project that brought everyone together is also something I am really happy to have had a tiny part in. The STRAIGHT OUTTA SOMEWHERE campaign is designed not only to promote the Straight Outta Compton film depicting the rise of Beats bossman Dr. Dre and fellow N.W.A. members, but to inspire all of us to pay homage to where we come from and really, to own who we are. That is something I'm always in favor of.
